About this board game
Saboteur: The Lost Mines is a 3–9 player board game with a 45-minute play time, inspired by the Saboteur card game. Players divide into two clans, each containing loyal dwarves, selfish dwarves, and a saboteur secretly working for the opposing clan.
Every player has a pawn, and the dwarves must travel along paths to reach four goal cards. Three goals contain treasure, while one hides a sleeping dragon that players generally want to avoid waking. The treasure cards are secret, and the non-dragon goal cards award a variable number of points based on the treasure they conceal.
Sabotage in The Lost Mines targets the board rather than a particular player. Blocking path cards and tokens can hinder everyone’s progress, including the player who placed them, creating tense decisions throughout the game. Path cards do not need to connect to a player’s own start card, offering more ways to obstruct movement than in Saboteur: The Duel.
- Hidden loyalties: Loyal, selfish, and opposing-clan saboteur roles shape each clan.
- Shared board tension: Blocking paths and adding tokens affect all players.
- Secret rewards: Goal values depend on concealed treasure cards.
- Dragon danger: One goal contains a sleeping dragon best left undisturbed.
Because sabotage affects the shared board and no one is ever removed from the game, every player remains involved. Combining movement, secret identities, uncertain rewards, and risks that can backfire, Saboteur: The Lost Mines offers a distinct board game experience based on the ideas of the original card game, its expansion, and its two-player version.
