About this board game

Saboteur is a secret-role card game for 3–10 players, played in about 30 minutes. As dwarves mining underground, players must determine whom they can trust while building—or disrupting—the route to hidden gold.

At the start of each round, Dwarf Cards secretly assign every player the role of miner or saboteur. The Start Card and three face-down Goal Cards form the mine layout. One Goal Card hides the gold, but nobody knows which one.

On each turn, a player chooses one of three options: place a Path Card, play an Action Card in front of a player, or pass. Path Cards must connect to an existing path, with all paths matching correctly; they cannot be played sideways. Miners try to create an uninterrupted route from the Start Card to a Goal Card, while saboteurs secretly work to prevent the gold from being reached.

  • Path Cards: Build the mine route toward the three hidden goals.
  • Action Cards: Help or hinder players and obtain information about the Goal Cards.
  • Secret roles: Keep your allegiance hidden until the round ends.

The round ends immediately when a Path Card reaches the gold. The miners then win and receive cards with gold pieces. If the gold cannot be reached, the saboteurs win and receive the gold pieces instead.

After the rewards are distributed, a new round begins with roles concealed again. In Saboteur, careful path building, suspicious decisions, and well-timed actions shape each round, but only the player with the most gold after three rounds wins.
