About this board game

Salem 1692 is a social deduction card game for 4–12 players that plays in about 35 minutes. Set in Salem, Massachusetts, in the perilous year 1692, it places players among townsfolk caught in a dangerous hunt for witches.

Each player takes the role of a prominent villager, such as Mary Warren, Samuel Parris, John Proctor, Tituba, or Sarah Good. Players receive Tryal cards that secretly reveal whether they are a Witch or Not a Witch, then gather cards to accuse or defend other players. Since cards cannot be played on yourself, deciding who to trust is essential.

Red accusation cards can begin the process of exposing a suspected witch. When enough accusations target a player, whoever places the final accusation chooses one of that player’s Tryal cards to reveal. The villagers win once all Witch Tryal cards have been found, but the town must act quickly before suspicion and conspiracy spread.

  • Green and blue cards: Use effects such as Alibi, Stocks, Matchmaker, Asylum, and Scapegoat to help allies or hinder enemies.
  • Night: Everyone closes their eyes while the Witches choose someone to eliminate and the Constable chooses someone who may be saved.
  • Conspiracy: Players take a face-down Tryal card from the player to their left, potentially turning the whole town toward evil.

Packaged in a faux leather book box with a magnetic closure, Salem 1692 can disguise itself on a bookshelf like an antique. With accusations flying and loyalties constantly shifting, Salem 1692 captures the tension, politics, and religious extremism of its historical setting.
