About this expansion

San Juan: The New Buildings & The Events is a 2009 expansion for 2–4 players, with a play time of about 45 minutes. It adds new building cards and event cards to the San Juan card game.

The first part of the expansion introduces 31 new cards: 26 violet buildings and five factories. These cards are shuffled together with the cards from the basic game, adding the new buildings directly to the shared card pool.

• Five new factory cards
• Six different event cards

The event cards work differently from the buildings. Whenever an event card is revealed face up, it is placed face up alongside the character tiles in the middle of the table, and a replacement card is drawn immediately.

This rule applies whenever an event card appears during card distribution at the beginning of the game, the councilor phase, the trader phase, or the prospector phase. It also applies when a building’s power reveals an event card or when an event is resolved.

San Juan: The New Buildings & The Events was not released as a separate product; it can be found in the Treasure Chest. The buildings, but not the events, were also included in the 2014 edition of San Juan, together with the Hut, a new building not previously available in any version.
