Sandbag is a 30-minute trick-taking game for 3–6 players, set at a hot air balloon festival where everyone is trying to rise higher than the competition.

Across three rounds, each player configures their basket with two face-up cards. The most common color among all face-up cards becomes the trump suit, creating a shared objective that can shift as the round develops.

When playing a trick, you can play a card from your hand, use a sandbag to sluff and avoid winning, or play one of your opponents’ face-up cards. This combination makes every trick interactive, while the available cards and changing trump keep the situation in motion.

During a round, face-up cards can be exchanged for face-down sandbags, potentially changing both the number and kind of cards shaping the trump suit. You will need to judge when to pursue valuable rockets and when to avoid taking unwanted tricks.

Although the goal is to send your balloon higher, scoring rewards a different kind of restraint: rockets are worth negative points, while sandbag cards should be avoided. At the end, the player with the lowest score wins. Highly interactive and especially well suited to larger groups, Sandbag offers a lively contest for control, timing, and clever card play.
