About this board game

Secret Hitler is a stimulating and exciting social deduction game set in the politically volatile atmosphere of pre-World War II Germany. The game artfully blends elements of deception, intrigue, and strategy, challenging players to navigate a web of political unrest and conspiracy.

The core setting of the game revolves around two factions within the German government: the Liberals and the Fascists, one of whom is the Secret Hitler. The Liberals outnumber the Fascists, but they don’t know who each other are. The Fascists, on the other hand, know each other’s identities and will work together to sow distrust among the Liberals, and ultimately install their Secret Hitler as Chancellor.

The game unfolds in a series of legislative sessions where players, acting as politicians, elect a President and a Chancellor who will work together to enact a new law from a randomly drawn deck. The laws could either aid the Liberal cause or empower the Fascists. The key here is secrecy. The elected government has to deliberate in private, causing a cloud of suspicion among the rest.

The core mechanics of Secret Hitler are centered on deception, deduction, and political intrigue. Players engage in strategic discourse, bluffs, and negotiations in an attempt to deduce who among them is the Secret Hitler. This uncertainty and the constant second-guessing of players’ motives create an atmosphere of suspense and intrigue that builds up throughout the game.

What sets Secret Hitler apart from other social deduction games is the thematic depth and the tension that the game mechanics create. The game leverages historical context to add a layer of realism to the game’s deception-based mechanics. Every decision in the game has weight, as players constantly balance the threat of Fascist policies against the risk of mistakenly accusing a fellow Liberal. The game ends either when the Fascists enact six Fascist policies, when Hitler is elected Chancellor after three Fascist policies have been enacted, or when the Liberals enact five Liberal policies or successfully assassinate Hitler.

It’s a battle of wits, strategy, and deception, where the line between friend and foe is blurred, and nothing is as it seems. Secret Hitler promises an engaging and thrilling board game experience.
