Senjutsu: Battle For Japan – The Shadow Under Steel is a tactical battle game for 1–4 players, with games lasting around 20 minutes. It adds three distinctive fighters, 104 ability cards, and new ways to approach combat through signature cards, Kamae Trees, base abilities, and unique solo decks.

The Ashigaru and his Akita guard dog form a unique battlefield partnership. Neither is especially strong alone: both have fewer wounds than a regular fighter, while their Signature Cards offer less spectacular feats of endurance, skill, and strength. Used together, however, they become a potent team capable of forcing opponents to defend against tooth and spearpoint.

The Ashigaru is controlled like a regular fighter, using a 40-card Ability Card Deck and Kamae Tree. The Akita uses a single Behaviour Card alongside its own deck of Ability Cards, creating a different kind of battlefield presence that depends on coordination between the two.

The Ninja Assassin takes a more direct and dangerous approach. As a high-damage, high-vulnerability fighter, the Assassin focuses on generating Focus through the Kamae Tree and a Focus-gaining special ability on the Core Card. The goal is to do as much as possible quickly, then escape to safety.

With contrasting abilities and character systems, The Shadow Under Steel offers a compact Senjutsu experience built around teamwork, focused attacks, and vulnerable fighters who must use their strengths carefully.
