About this board game

Setup is a strategic tile-placement game for 2–4 players that plays in about 25 minutes. Released in 2023, it challenges players to create sets of numbers in matching suits and score points to move around the board.

Each turn, look for sequences and choose a set that can create multiple combinations on the board. The more effectively you spot opportunities and place your tiles, the more points you can score. However, planning ahead is not always easy: tiles stack, so a sequence you were relying on may disappear when an opponent takes their turn.

Keep watching the board even when it is not your turn. Opponents may unknowingly create sets using tiles in your bonus spaces, giving you opportunities to claim extra points. Staying alert can turn another player’s move into a valuable scoring chance.

Setup also includes a more demanding team play mode. Work with a partner to plan sets together, maximize your points, help create combinations, and gift each other bonus points. Cooperation and timing become just as important as finding the best sequence.

Be careful how many points you score, because the game ends when the first player crosses the finish line. In team play, reaching the front first does not determine the winner; victory goes to the team that avoids finishing last when the game ends.
