About this board game

Shadow Cards is a trick-taking game for 2–5 players with a 40-minute play time. Released in 2025, it challenges players to balance secret scoring ambitions with the immediate need to win tricks.

Before each round of trick-taking, every player secretly predicts how many points they want to score. They then choose two cards from their hand, and the values of those cards determine the points to be scored in that round.

That decision creates the central tension of Shadow Cards. Should you set aside high-numbered cards to aim for a large score at the end of the round, or keep those powerful cards in your hand so they can help you win tricks during play?

The choice is never purely about having the biggest numbers. Players must consider how their selected cards shape their scoring target while also judging how much strength they need for the trick-taking round ahead. A confident prediction can be rewarding, but selecting the right cards requires careful timing and instinct.

Each round asks you to weigh long-term points against short-term control. The cards you reserve may improve your scoring potential, while the cards you keep may make it easier to compete for tricks. Reading the situation and managing this trade-off are essential to success.

Shadow Cards is played over three rounds. Those who combine instinct and strategy can prevail and win, making every secret prediction and card selection an important part of the final result.
