About this board game

Shadows Upon Lassadar is a solitaire fantasy quest game for 1 player, designed to play in about 30 minutes. As a young magic adept, you must find three stolen Warding Keys before the Grayking reaches the land of Lassadar.

Travel through cities by drawing cards and resolve a range of quests. City Quest cards present battles with win and loss outcomes, while Council of Wardens cards can provide spells and restore your Mana and Spirit. Victories in ordinary cities remove their quest cards from the game, but defeats send them back into the quest discard pile.

Magic offers powerful tools, but it is also a two-edged sword. Ice, oak, and flint spells can help you survive, yet relying too heavily on magic may corrupt your spirit. If your Spirit falls below 1, the game ends.

  • Recover three Warding Keys from specially marked cities.
  • Use expanded battle maps to confront the Grayking’s servants.
  • Face enemy AI mechanics designed to learn and adapt as the game progresses.
  • Manage Mana, Spirit, spells, dice, and the advancing Progress Track.

The three Warding City quests lead to expanded, wargame-style hex-map battles. Dice determine battle outcomes, while the Grayking’s servants use AI-driven rules. Once all three keys are secured, cast the Oaken Spell: Barrier Lock to seal the gates and force the Grayking back to the Tower of Ash.

This print-and-play game can be assembled as a card deck or combined with small game boards. Shadows Upon Lassadar earned recognition in the 2011 Solitaire Print and Play contest and awards, including Best Art, Best AI, and Best Horror Game.
