About this board game

SherCo’s Grand Slam Baseball Game is a detailed baseball simulation for 1–2 players, with a listed play time of 60 minutes and many games taking 30–45 minutes. First introduced in 1968, it combines dice-driven results with a numbered 28 × 28 stadium grid where every play can unfold on the board.

Each batter and pitcher is rated using a broad range of statistical categories. Batters receive ratings for batting average, home runs, triples, clutch hitting, walks, strikeouts, hit by pitch, base-stealing speed, throwing arm, and fielding ability. Pitchers are rated for ERA, innings of effectiveness, complete games, K/BB ratio, home runs allowed, and, in SherCo Plus, batting average against.

  • Stop-action play: Plot probable hits and outs onto the field, then move fielders, runners, and the ball through each sequence.
  • Detailed conditions: Wind, artificial turf, injuries, hit-and-runs, umpire decisions, errors, special events, and freak events influence play.
  • Flexible formats: Play solitaire or head-to-head games, use Fast Action Charts for other matchups, or create short SherCo Leagues of Baseball Simulation seasons.
  • Multiple eras: Use modern and historical ballparks, vintage teams, championship series, and early seasons.

A batted ball may drop for a hit or become an out depending on its location, the wind, and defensive positioning. Fly balls can be caught, clear the fence, ricochet off the wall, or become triples; an optional hang-time rule adds another consideration for outfield plays.

The newer SherCo Plus variant adds a base-36 dice system, expanded pitcher-batter-runner ratings, more chart results, and rarities such as catcher’s interference. With its fielding pieces and detailed player ratings, SherCo’s Grand Slam Baseball Game lets each season develop play by play.
