About this board game

Shipwrights of the North Sea is a 2–5 player board game with a playing time of about 60 minutes, set in the early years of the Viking Age around 900 AD. Players compete as Viking shipwrights, striving to build the greatest fleet on the North Sea.

The aim is to finish with the most Victory Points. Points come from constructing various Ships and Buildings, while gold, workers, and valuable materials must be managed carefully. Players collect oak, wool, and iron, and can bring other craftsmen on board to help their efforts.

Play unfolds across a series of days, with every round divided into three phases. During the Morning Phase, each player receives three cards. In the Afternoon Phase, players take actions, play or discard their cards, and use one action on the central Village board. In the Evening Phase, they receive Gold and Workers for the next day.

• Build Ships and Buildings to gain Victory Points.
• Collect oak, wool, and iron for construction.
• Spend precious Gold wisely and involve helpful craftsmen.
• Use the Village board while dealing with an assortment of townsfolk.

The game ends after the round in which one or more players constructs their fourth ship. The player with the highest total of Victory Points wins.

This 2017 second edition combines the first-edition base game and the Townsfolk Expansion in one box. It includes 128 cards featuring 46 unique illustrations, five player boards, five player reference boards, a Village board, and wooden components including Gold Ships, oak, wool, iron, and Workers.
