About this board game
Shoot-Out Hockey is a fast, abstract tabletop hockey game for 1–2 players, with games designed to take about 30 minutes. It recreates hockey through either Fast Action Cards (FAC) or dice, offering a streamlined alternative to tabletop games built around individual player cards.
When using Fast Action Cards, each flipped card represents a number of in-game minutes. If that value falls within either team’s scoring range, a scoring chance is processed. This creates a compact system focused on the key moments of a hockey game rather than a detailed play-by-play simulation.
Team cards provide the information needed to represent each side. They list the team roster and player ratings, including references for goal scorers, assist ratings, and fight ratings. The same cards also include individual goalie ratings, with separate home and away values.
- For 1–2 players
- Approximately 30 minutes per game
- Play with Fast Action Cards or dice
- Team cards include rosters, player ratings, scoring references, assist ratings, and fight ratings
- Goalies have individual home and away ratings
Season sets include one card for each team, listing all individual players from that team. Extra players are provided in a separate text file, while individual historical seasons are also available. These options let players explore different team lineups and historical campaigns within the game’s fast, ratings-driven format.
Designed for quick resolution and broad team representation, Shoot-Out Hockey focuses on speed and abstraction. It re-implements Player Of The Game Hockey from Downey Games.
