About this board game
Sindbad is a 1990 adventure and trading board game for 2–5 players, with games lasting about 60 minutes. Each player takes the role of an incarnation of Sindbad and sets out across the sea to build a fortune and return safely to Basra.
The goal is to amass one million miskhals through a combination of trade, treasure, and adventure. Your journey follows one of three sea routes, and the choice of route belongs to each Sindbad. These routes differ in length, opportunity, and, in some cases, risk.
Every route is formed from a changing sequence of destinations and encounters. Along the way, you may visit:
- Unknown Islands to explore during your voyage
- Known Lands that provide stops along the route
- Trade ports where commerce helps build your fortune
Movement distance is determined by a die roll, adding uncertainty to each voyage. Deciding which route to take gives every journey its own balance of distance, opportunity, and danger.
Adventure cards provide valuable assistance during the expedition. You can use them to help defeat monsters, opponents, or events that stand between you and your goal. These cards add another layer of choice as you work to protect your progress and continue your voyage.
In Sindbad, success requires more than simply gathering wealth: you must also make it back to Basra safely. Combine trading, treasure hunting, movement decisions, and adventure cards to complete the journey with a fortune of one million miskhals.
