About this expansion

Small World: Sky Islands is a board game addition for 3–6 players that takes about 80 minutes to play. It introduces seven new races and powers to the Small World base game while giving those races—and all previously released races—new territory to fight over.

At the beginning of the game, choose whether the Sky Islands board displays two or three islands. Use the Small World board as though playing with one fewer player; for example, a five-player game uses the four-player board.

Two access points connect the regular board to the sky: a beanstalk and a stairway. Place them in different regions, then watch for opportunities to reach the matching areas above. Whenever one of your races stands on an access point, it can try to conquer the Sky Islands space showing the corresponding symbol.

  • Choose between a Sky Islands board showing two or three islands.
  • Use a smaller Small World board than the player count normally requires.
  • Place the beanstalk and stairway on different regions as access points.
  • Conquer matching Sky Islands spaces from those access points.
  • Gain one additional coin for controlling every region on a Sky Island at the end of a turn.

Races cannot begin their conquests in the Sky Islands unless their power specifically allows them to do so. This creates a clear distinction between reaching the islands through an access point and starting there directly.

With its additional races, powers, and elevated territories, Small World: Sky Islands extends the familiar conflict into a new area while preserving the importance of controlling regions and earning coins.
