About this board game
Snapshot is a two-player, 60-minute wargame of close-action combat between individuals, set primarily inside starships of the far future.
Released in 1979, it adapts and expands the personal combat rules from Traveller, the science-fiction role-playing game. The result is a more detailed rendition of those rules in a dedicated game format.
Combat takes place against the backdrop of starship interiors, supported by detailed ship plans and a set of scenarios. Snapshot is designed to be playable with or without Traveller, making the included rules and scenarios useful whether or not you already use that role-playing game.
The component set includes:
- 120 die-cut counters
- Detailed ship plans
- A weapons chart
- Two six-sided dice
- Rules and scenarios
As a focused game of personal combat, Snapshot centers its experience on encounters between individuals rather than large-scale engagements. Its far-future starship setting and close-action scope give the game a distinct science-fiction identity while keeping the action focused on the combat rules.
Whether approached as an adaptation of Traveller’s personal combat system or as a standalone wargame, Snapshot provides a compact framework for two players. The combination of counters, ship plans, weapons information, dice, and scenarios creates the foundation for its detailed treatment of individual combat.
