About this board game

Sorcerer is a strategy card game for 2–4 players, with games lasting around 90 minutes. Set in a grim, gaslamp-lit world of mythical creatures and sorcery, it challenges players to conquer three battlefields through careful preparation and powerful magic.

Players use sorcery to conjure minions, cast spells, and wield enchanted items. The game combines story-driven deck building with tactical positioning, push-your-luck decisions, and dice-driven combat, creating a contest where strategy and uncertainty work side by side.

Each round begins with a dice roll that determines the available energy. Because the result is shared, the changing resource level affects everyone equally while ensuring that no two rounds need to unfold in the same way. During the Action Phase, energy can be spent in several ways:

  • Conjure minions from your hand onto any of the three battlefields.
  • Cast possessions that improve a minion’s traits and abilities.
  • Play sorcery cards with a range of direct effects.
  • Add energy to your pool, draw cards, or move minions between battlefields.

The Battle Phase puts those preparations to the test. Players roll custom dice according to each minion’s attack trait, with results ranging from a miss to a hit, double hit, or critical hit. Damage counters are then placed on minions or directly on a battlefield.

Omen tokens offer a way to influence the outcome by allowing dice to be rerolled before damage is distributed. This gives players meaningful control over risky combat results without removing the tension of the roll.

First developed in 2012 and refined through extensive community feedback, Sorcerer was released in 2019 after its prototype and print-and-play development period. Its distinct Action and Battle Phases create a clear flow, while the shared energy system and Omen tokens keep every confrontation full of tactical choices.
