About this board game

Sovereign: Fall of Wormwood is an expandable card game for 2–4 players, designed for a 90-minute session of civilization building and conflict.

Each player leads one of ten factions, each with a personal ideology represented by a prebuilt deck. Your deck includes 30 unique faction cards and 20 Echoes—remnants of the ark that carried humanity to the alien world of Apsyntion.

Build an empire from the ground up by managing civilians, military units, and facilities unique to your faction. Echoes are the key to victory: score ten to win, but every Echo remains vulnerable while in your hand or on the table. Protect your own with the units and facilities you build, or attack opponents to discover and steal theirs.

  • Build or conquer: Forge Echoes yourself or take them from rival players.
  • Hidden construction: Card backs track construction progress from turn to turn without revealing the card underneath.
  • Flexible citizens: Double-sided tokens begin as building resources, then can become lower-class workers or soldiers.
  • Shifting alliances: Cards can hinder or help opponents, encouraging fragile, temporary cooperation.

While Sovereign works well with two players, it is optimized for three or four, where competing interests and interactive cards create a changing political landscape. The design combines elements of worker placement games and collectible card games into a dynamic hybrid experience.

With more than 300 unique cards, Sovereign: Fall of Wormwood presents a society that can rise and fall in under two hours, as players decide whether their path to victory lies in development, defense, or conquest.
