Splotch!

About this board game

Splotch! is a standalone expansion for Croak! for 2 players, with games lasting around 30 minutes. It preserves the base game’s movement and tile-flipping system while adding cards that can alter the course of play.

Players move their pieces around the board, trying to land on opposing pieces while protecting their own queen frog. Whenever pieces move across tiles, those tiles are flipped over to reveal different items that affect gameplay.

Each player draws cards until they have a hand of 3. During their own turn, a player may play one card, while during an opponent’s turn they may play any number of cards. This timing creates opportunities to respond to an opponent’s actions as well as shape your own turn.

• Card-driven changes: Cards can manipulate playing-piece positions.
• Hand and deck control: Cards can affect the cards in a player’s hand or in the deck.
• Turn modifications: Cards can change the mechanics of a turn.
• Optional player expansion: The original Croak! can be extended to support 5 or 6 players.

Splotch! combines the positional challenge of landing on opposing frogs with the uncertainty of revealing board tiles and the tactical possibilities provided by cards. The result is a Croak! experience where card timing and card effects become an additional part of every confrontation.

As a standalone expansion, Splotch! offers the Croak! system together with its added card mechanisms, while also integrating with Croak! for players who want to extend the original game.
