War Elephant: Battles of the Diadochi 217-190 B.C. – SPQR Battle Module is a two-player expansion for the Great Battles of History series game SPQR, with an approximate play time of 240 minutes.

This module provides counters and rules for recreating two major battles from the late Diadochoi period of Mediterranean history. The battles represented are Raphia, fought in 217 BC, and Magnesia, fought in 190 BC.

The Diadochoi refined and reformed the Macedonian system of warfare perfected by Alexander the Great. Their military efforts formed part of the heyday of Macedonian art of war, although the period also saw that system become increasingly rigid and less effectively served.

Two factors shaped this development. The Diadochoi were not comparable to Alexander in their ability to understand or use tactical systems, while their enthusiasm for elephants became a notable feature of the era. War Elephant places these elements within the battles of the Seleucid Empire.

Released in 1992, War Elephant offers a focused historical addition to the SPQR system. Magnesia is also included in SPQR Deluxe Edition, while this module presents both battles together for players exploring the military legacy of the late Diadochoi.
