About this board game
Spy Alley is a 1992 board game for 2–6 players that takes about 45 minutes to play. Each player begins with a secret identity based on a nationality and must gather the items needed to win before an opponent correctly identifies them.
The goal is to collect your nationality’s complete set of required items and land on the winners square. To succeed, you need a codebook, disguise, key, and password. Reaching the destination is only part of the challenge, because your secret identity must remain hidden until you win.
- Choose a secret nationality at the start of the game.
- Collect a codebook, disguise, key, and password for that nationality.
- Purchase items associated with other nationalities to create uncertainty.
- Try to reach the winners square before your identity is correctly guessed.
Bluffing is central to the experience. Players can purchase items belonging to nationalities they do not need, making it harder for opponents to determine which identity they are pursuing. Every purchase may provide information—or deliberately send the wrong signal.
Opponents can attempt to guess your nationality before you reach victory. If the guess is correct, you are out of the game. However, an incorrect guess eliminates the player who made it, creating a high-stakes decision whenever someone thinks they have uncovered your secret.
With hidden identities, collection objectives, bluffing, and risky guesses, Spy Alley focuses on reading the other players while protecting your own plan. Gather the right items, disguise your intentions, and make it to the winners square before someone exposes you.
