About this board game
Spyrium is a game for 2–5 players that takes about 75 minutes, set in an alternate, steampunk-based England. Players build factories and employ workers to produce and process a mysterious commodity known as Spyrium.
Producing Spyrium in one factory and processing it in another earns victory points. The material can also be purchased, but it is rare and expensive, making money and worker management essential throughout the game.
The game’s circular structure gives each player control over when to leave the placement phase and enter the activation phase. Workers placed during the worker phase can then be used to carry out important actions, creating a constant balance between immediate needs and longer-term development.
- Increase regular income to gain greater financial flexibility.
- Build a permanent workforce whose members can be used repeatedly to raise money.
- Use workers to raise money, purchase an adjacent card, or work in an idle factory.
These choices matter especially as players compete for the important end-of-game buildings. Developing income and a reliable base of permanently employed workers can make it possible to claim these buildings and generate many victory points.
Every player must contend with limited money, workers, and Spyrium. Whether focusing on production, processing, purchasing, or flexible worker use, success in Spyrium comes from dealing most effectively with these shortages and converting them into points before the game ends.
