About this board game
Starfire 3rd Edition is a two-player starship combat game with an approximately 30-minute play time, released in 1992. It is a complete redesign of the classic Starfire, updating the series with major changes to its combat system.
At the heart of the game is its ship design system. Players create their own starships before sending them into battle against an opponent. A range of systems available at different technology levels supports varied strategies and tactics, giving ship construction a central role in each confrontation.
The third edition replaces the original game’s 2d6 combat rolls with a 1d10 dice system. These major revisions were intended to resolve issues with the original game while preserving the custom-design focus that defines the Starfire series.
- Designed for 2 players
- Approximately 30 minutes of play time
- Custom starship design as the game’s central system
- Combat resolved with 1d10 rolls
- Technology levels that support different strategies and tactics
Starfire 3rd Edition was the third major edition in the Starfire series and re-implements Starfire. In 1997, Task Force Games sold the Starfire game system to Starfire Design Studio, which released electronic supplements for this edition.
In 1998, Starfire Design Studio published the Starfire 3rd Edition Revised Rulebook. Together, the redesigned combat rules and flexible ship construction make Starfire 3rd Edition a focused entry in the series for players interested in designing their own forces and testing them in battle.
