About this expansion
Stone Age: The Mammoth Herd is a mini expansion for 2–4 players that adds a moving mammoth herd and competitive taming contests to the Stone Age experience, with an approximate play time of 80 minutes.
The expansion can be combined with the basic game and all other expansions. Shuffle its 16 bonus tiles and place them face down beside the board, with the mammoth herd figure nearby. At the beginning of each round, the start player places the herd on the resource shown by the top tile, then reveals a bonus tile for the current round.
The normal game remains largely unchanged, but the herd creates a new opportunity during the action phase. After collecting resources from the area where the herd stands, players may move some or all of their people from that area to the revealed bonus tile. Each person moved costs 1 food, although one resource may replace one food as usual. Any people not moved return to their player board.
After everyone has used their people, one mammoth is tamed. Players who sent people to the bonus tile roll one die per person, simultaneously. They compare their highest single die rather than adding results, and tools cannot be used. The winner may claim the “1” bonus or the “all” bonus; every other participant receives the “all” bonus. The winner then keeps the tile face down.
- Race rival tribes to tame the passing mammoth herd.
- Choose when to spend food and people for bonus opportunities.
- Compete using highest-die results instead of standard total rolls.
- Score 10 points for having the most bonus tiles, with tied players all receiving the points.
When the bonus tiles run out, the herd is removed and play continues under the normal rules. Stone Age: The Mammoth Herd adds timing, risk, and a new final-scoring contest without replacing the core game.
