Storm Above the Reich

About this board game

Storm Above the Reich is a solitaire wargame for 1–2 players, with a listed play time of 60 minutes, depicting an Fw190 squadron’s struggle against daylight bombing raids over Germany during World War II.

Each aircraft is represented by a stickered block, while the United States Army Air Force’s B-24 Liberators form a formidable “combat box”—a deadly terrain the player must confront. The game presents the air war in broad strokes, following its desperate trajectory from late 1942 through early 1945.

Individual missions take half an hour or more to play and can be linked into a campaign lasting anywhere from 6 to 60 missions. Across those encounters, the squadron attempts to deter and destroy the relentless bomber raids.

Storm Above the Reich is a complete stand-alone game, so Skies Above the Reich is not required. It also uses the same rules, allowing components from both games to transfer seamlessly between them.

When combined, the two games provide eight formation maps, six pursuit maps, and both B-17 and B-24 bombers. Their staffels can also be combined, expanding the scope of the shared air-war system while giving Storm Above the Reich a natural place in a larger collection.
