About this board game
Storm Over Normandy is a two-player World War II board game about the Allied landings in Normandy, designed for a playing time of approximately 180 minutes. Set from June 6, 1944, it covers the first week of the battle as American, British, and Canadian forces begin the operation intended to help end the war on the West Front.
Using the Area Move system introduced in Storm Over Stalingrad and Storm Over Dien Bien Phu, the game focuses on the five landing beaches: Sword, Juno, Gold, Omaha, and Utah. Allied paratrooper operations and the German response are also represented, with each turn covering one day and units ranging from battalions to brigades.
Tactical cards add specific historical and situational effects to play without creating additional rules overhead. The rules are similar in length and complexity to those of Storm Over Stalingrad, and include many examples of play alongside modifications that reflect the scale and nature of the Normandy operation.
The Special Ops #06 edition includes the components needed to play, although four six-sided dice are required separately:
- One 22 × 34-inch full-color map sheet
- One dual-sided counter sheet, with counters for the game
- One 12-page full-color rulebook
- Fifty-four Tactical Cards, with 27 cards per side
Storm Over Normandy was designed by Ken Dunn and Nick Richardson and developed by Brian Youse. The English edition is included in the Summer 2015 issue, Issue #6, of Special Ops magazine.
