About this board game
Strand-Cup is a beach-volleyball card game for 4–8 players, played in two teams over approximately 45 minutes.
Cards represent the normal plays of volleyball, including the forearm pass, spike, block, and dive. Players cooperate with their teammates, playing cards to send the ball over the net and put pressure on the opposing team.
Teams can combine cards to make a return more difficult. The opposing side must then respond with cards that receive the ball and send it back over the net, keeping the exchange going until one team cannot return the ball.
- Designed for four, six, or eight players
- Played in two competing teams
- Uses cards for familiar volleyball plays
- Features combinations that increase the challenge for opponents
- Continues through successive points and rallies
The normal rules of volleyball shape the game. Only the serving side can score, and a player cannot hit the ball—or play a card—two times in succession. These rules make teamwork essential as players coordinate their available plays across each rally.
Once a point ends, players refill their hands and begin a new point. Released in 2000, Strand-Cup aims for quick-playing action with the feeling of a real volleyball match, turning the rhythm of serves, responses, and returns into a team card game.
