About this board game

Suez ’56: Anglo-French Intervention in Egypt is a solitaire board game for 1 player, with an expected play time of 120 minutes. Published in 2015, it places you in command of British, French, and Israeli forces during Operation Musketeer, the invasion of Egypt.

Your historical objectives are to regain control of the Suez Canal and potentially remove Egypt’s President Nasser. However, military success is only part of the mission: you must also avoid the political debacle that marked the real-world intervention.

The game uses the Cold War Blitz series rules and a card-driven solitaire system. You control the allied units and use a dedicated deck to enhance their capabilities, while a second deck directs Egyptian opposition forces through randomly drawn cards.

  • Players: 1
  • Play time: approximately 120 minutes
  • Unit scale: brigade
  • Map scale: 14.5 miles per inch
  • Opposition system: Egyptian activity controlled by a random card deck

Combat is resolved through a quasi-tactical system in which opposing units fire at one another. The card decks do more than influence battlefield capabilities: they can also affect when the game ends.

The final turn is fixed, but you control when it arrives through judicious card play, while Egyptian opposition cards may alter the timing as well. In Suez ’56, every decision contributes to the challenge of pursuing operational goals without repeating the political failure of the historical event.
