About this board game
TAIJI is a strategy board game for 2 players, ages 6 and up, with an approximate play time of 30 minutes. First released in 2007, it challenges players to create the largest connected shapes of their colour while every placement also affects their opponent.
The name TAIJI refers to the “Great Duality”: Good and Evil, Light and Darkness, or YIN and YANG. These opposing forces are indivisible in the game, represented by shared “dual” pieces called TAIJITUS. Both players use the same pieces, making every decision relevant to both DARK and LIGHT.
On your turn, place a TAIJITU anywhere on the board where a free space is available. The central challenge is that each piece plays both colours at once. A placement that strengthens your own connected group may also help your opponent build theirs, so the board develops through constantly intertwined opportunities.
At the end of the game, each player’s score is calculated by adding the sizes of their two largest shapes made from connected squares of their colour. The goal is to achieve the highest total by carefully shaping both sides of the shared board.
