About this board game
Taiwan Formosa is a resource management and city-building board game for 2–5 players, with a playing time of about 60 minutes.
Set in Taiwan after World War II and the subsequent land reforms, the game reflects the island’s period of rapid economic growth known as the Taiwan Miracle. As the economy opens and opportunities emerge, construction companies compete to shape Taiwan’s developing cities.
Each player manages a construction company and must decide how to use resources effectively. Building the right combination of structures is central to success, but choosing the right moment and location is just as important.
- Resource management: Plan and use your available resources carefully.
- City building: Construct structures as Taiwan undergoes a building boom.
- Area control: Compete with rivals for influence across the island.
- Precise timing: Choose when and where to build for the greatest scoring impact.
Strong decisions require more than simply constructing as much as possible. Players must pursue combinations that work together while watching the development of competing companies. The changing opportunities created by Taiwan’s economic expansion make timing and positioning essential.
In Taiwan Formosa, the goal is to rise above your rivals and become the most influential developer in all of Taiwan. Manage your resources, claim valuable areas, and build the right structures at the right times and places to score the most points and win the game.
