About this board game
Tal der Abenteuer: Die Schatzsuche im Himalaja is a 2–4-player board game for approximately 45 minutes, featuring two different adventures on a double-sided gameboard.
Players do not claim the pawns in their colors. Instead, they play cards to move pawns along branching paths. Each decision can send a pawn along a longer route or guide it back toward a shorter one, while face-down stepping-stone markers provide gold, diamonds, or additional cards when certain spaces are reached.
- Move pawns with cards rather than controlling a personal pawn.
- Choose between diverging routes with different consequences.
- Collect gold, diamonds, and additional cards from stepping-stone markers.
- Play across both sides of the gameboard, including a second adventure with destructible bridges.
The first round ends as soon as a pawn reaches the temple, the path’s end zone. The player who moved that pawn receives 1 diamond. Players then score or lose gold for cards remaining in their hands, according to the zone where the matching pawn finished: cards for the end zone are worth +3 gold, followed by +2, +1, 0, and -1 gold for the successive zones.
The board is then flipped for the second adventure. This side adds bridges that are destroyed after being crossed, making route decisions more complicated. When a pawn reaches the final goal, diamonds are counted: the player with the most receives 12 gold, while the second-most receives 6 gold. After the final hand-card scoring, the player with the most gold wins.
Winner of Austria’s Spiel der Spiele 2006, Tal der Abenteuer combines shared pawn movement, branching routes, and changing scoring opportunities in a compact Himalayan treasure hunt.
