About this board game
The Bell of Treason: 1938 Munich Crisis in Czechoslovakia is a fast-paced, card-driven board game for 1–2 players, with sessions lasting around 45 minutes. It places you in the existential crisis created by Hitler’s territorial demands.
One player represents the ideal of Defend: protecting Czechoslovakia even without allies and at any cost. The opposing player represents Concede, the historically victorious ideal of agreeing to give up the Sudetenland to prevent bloodshed while hoping Hitler’s demands would stop there.
- Experience the 1938 crisis through a focused card-driven system.
- Play opposing approaches: defending the country or conceding the Sudetenland.
- Play with two players or try the solo mode.
The game adapts the crisis modeling system first introduced in Fort Sumter and later developed further in Red Flag Over Paris. This framework allows players to experience the pressure and uncertainty of a crisis period that forever influenced Czechoslovakia’s path and the eventual course of World War II.
The Bell of Treason does not judge whether defending Czechoslovakia would have been the right choice in 1938, or whether such a defense could have succeeded in any sense. Instead, it presents the dilemma for players to explore for themselves. The game also includes a solo adaptation of the system designed for Red Flag Over Paris, making this historical confrontation available when playing alone.
