About this board game
The Best of Chronology is a timeline-building trivia game for 2–8 players, with a typical play time of about 30 minutes. Released in 1997, it combines four Chronology games into one broad challenge covering Sports, History, Inventions & Discoveries, and Art & Entertainment.
Each player begins with a single face-up card beneath their Time lock. Every card shows an event and the year in which it occurred. On a turn, the player rolls the dice to determine the category, then hears an event from the next card and must decide where that card belongs on their own timeline.
If the placement is correct, the player takes the card and adds it above the Time lock, extending the timeline in the correct chronological position. The player may then stop or continue attempting another card, creating a choice between securing progress and pushing for a larger gain.
- Four categories: Sports, History, Inventions & Discoveries, and Art & Entertainment.
- Core challenge: place each event in the right position relative to the cards already in your timeline.
- Risk and reward: an incorrect placement costs all cards accumulated during that turn.
To keep the cards earned during a turn permanently, the player must finish that turn with a correct answer. A mistake sends the newly gathered cards away, making every additional attempt a calculated risk.
In The Best of Chronology, knowledge of dates matters, but so does judging the gaps between events and knowing when to stop. The first player to build a correctly ordered timeline containing 10 cards wins.
