The included version of Search for the Emperor’s Treasure is significantly different from its magazine edition. It changes the encounter mix, adds a deck of treasure clue cards, and expands the character selection with a dwarf and a “hairfoot.” Its Darlene Pekul map painting is replaced by a hex map with generic terrain symbols, which can be mounted on cardboard and cut apart to create a new map for each game.

The cards also make characters move more often, while most encounters can no longer be given away, causing this edition to play quite differently. With six titles and upgraded presentation, The Best of Dragon Magazine Games offers a broad collection of Dragon Magazine games in a single box.
