The Boldest

About this board game

The Boldest is a strategy board game for 2–5 players, with games lasting about 90 minutes. In a mysterious forest and the unknown Iron Valley, players lead factions of heroes on expeditions, defeat mechanical monsters, discover enigmatic artifacts, and compete to collect the most experience.

Each round, three expeditions explore the changing forest. During the Planning Phase, you secretly divide heroes from your hand into three groups behind your screen, placing one face down in each Planning Space. Groups are made from heroes of the same Class, while Pets can be combined with any other Class. You must carefully apportion your strength and anticipate both the changing forest and your opponents’ plans.

In the Action Phase, the Planning Spaces resolve consecutively. Players reveal their groups, announce their Class and strength, and the strongest group performs that Class’s action. Warriors act first, followed by Technicians, Hunters, and Cooks. Weaker groups keep their heroes and receive a new one as compensation, while successful groups send their Leader to the king and place their remaining heroes in the Party Tent until the next round.

• Warriors, Technicians, and Hunters: pursue specific Forest Cards, with other cards blocking their routes.
• Cooks: use delicious dishes to attract new heroes with Special Abilities.
• Pets: combine with any other Class to create flexible groups.

Built around Hand Management, Programming, and Hidden Bidding, The Boldest rewards careful planning and reading the table. After five or six rounds, depending on player count, the faction with the most experience earns the title of “The Boldest.” More than 100 unique illustrations by Max Prentis bring this richly detailed world to life.
