About this board game
The Grimwood is a chaotic, slightly strategic card game for 2–6 players, with an approximate play time of 60 minutes. Set in a dark-fantasy forest inhabited by supernatural creatures, it challenges players to search the deck, build collections, and create valuable combinations.
You could be a bounty hunter seeking fame, a peasant trying to feed a starving family, a maiden escaping an arranged marriage, or simply someone who got lost. Whatever brought you to the forest, your goal is to find and keep the most rewarding combinations before the deck runs out.
On each turn, draw one card from the deck or steal one from another player’s hand. You may then play a supernatural’s power or a Rune, before placing a combination. Supernatural powers can help you or sabotage your opponents, while Runes and Amulets provide extra actions or protection.
- Animal combinations: three Owls or three Crows are worth 10 points.
- Setting combinations: one Clearing, one Path, and one Swamp score 5 points, while three of any one setting score 3 points.
- Supernatural combinations: one through five Supernaturals score progressively from 1 to 15 points.
The game ends when the last card is drawn, and the deck can disappear faster than expected. With its mix of collection, stealing, powers, protection, and sudden disruption, The Grimwood creates plenty of unpredictable moments while rewarding players who spot the best combinations.
