About this board game
The Halls of Montezuma is a two-player, approximately 240-minute card-driven game about the Mexican War, set from 1846 to 1848 during the era of Manifest Destiny. Players use strategy card play to recreate the events and actions that shaped the conflict.
The 110-card deck gives players opportunities to move forces, trigger events, activate the fleet, secure control of lines of communication, and invade Mexico with General Scott. The historical cast includes figures such as Doniphan, Arista, Scott, and Santa Anna, alongside Lee, Jackson, Beauregard, and Grant.
Victory is tied to Mexico’s political will: the United States seeks to drive it down to zero. Yet the outcome is never certain. Each battle remains in doubt, as a few troops performing superbly can defeat a much larger force performing poorly.
Mexico also has a path to a sudden-death victory. Before the United States has declared war and brought its force to bear, Mexico may be able to secure a quick win, keeping the opening stages tense and unpredictable.
