About this board game

The Hobbit: There & Back Again is a competitive adventure game for 1–4 players, with journeys lasting about 30 minutes. Players draft dice, create pathways, gather resources, and perform actions as they work toward their chapter goals.

Each player has an adventure board book open to the same chapter. The player with the shortest height starts by rolling all the dice, then selects one; the remaining players choose in turn order until every die has been drafted. The next player then rolls all the dice, continuing the selection process.

Use your chosen dice and a dry-erase pen to mark the current chapter in your book. Draw a path through each challenge, making decisions that help you evade trolls, battle goblins, solve riddles, and write the most rewarding conclusion to the chapter.

The game follows eight iconic challenges from The Hobbit, bringing players from dangerous encounters to the quest for the dwarves’ treasure and the final confrontation with Smaug. Your goal is to complete the most rewarding journey to The Lonely Mountain.
