The Ironclads: Expansion Kit is a tactical naval combat game for 2–8 players, with sessions lasting about 120 minutes. It extends The Ironclads: A Tactical Level Game of Naval Combat in the American Civil War 1861–1865 system through 1879.

The expansion broadens the setting beyond the American Civil War by adding ships from major European powers of the same period. It also introduces new scenarios, including many set during the American Civil War and others taking place in South America or Europe.

Optional rules give players additional ways to approach battles and situations on the map. These rules include:

• Land and land-sea action
• Designated targets
• Double and triple gun loads
• Sharpshooters

The Ironclads: Expansion Kit was originally issued by Yaquinto Games. A second edition from Excalibre Games corrected a number of issues and provided improved physical quality and graphics.
