About this board game
The Long Road is a card-driven Old West game for 2–4 players, played in about 45 minutes. Players lead large herds of beef across prairies and highlands, guiding each caravan toward favorable destinations and livestock markets.
Every destination offers a chance to influence the eventual sale. Players place caravan cards, add character cards, and may use card effects to shape the journey. Weapons can also be bought and assigned to a character, increasing that character’s value when the proceeds are divided.
The division of the sale is deliberately unequal. Rather than sharing the money fairly, players follow the rules of the Far West: the best-armed—or smartest—player takes the largest portion of the booty. Character cards are split as well, making each destination an important contest of timing, positioning, and influence.
A turn follows a clear sequence of choices and required actions:
- Optionally change caravan cards.
- Play one caravan card on a destination.
- Optionally play a character card not already used at that destination.
- Optionally apply the caravan card’s effect.
- Optionally buy one weapon and assign weapons to one character.
- Draw cards until your hand is refilled to three caravan cards.
When a destination is full, its sale takes place, with caravan-card effects and character values determining the returns. The game ends when the fourth sale is triggered, and the player with the most money wins.
With its mix of caravan placement, character cards, weapons, and unequal rewards, The Long Road turns every livestock sale into a struggle for the best possible share.
