About this expansion

The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game – The Massing at Osgiliath is a print-on-demand encounter deck for 1–2 players, with an approximate play time of 60 minutes. Released in 2011, it presents a four-part quest in which heroes must survive Sauron’s vanguard and find their way across the Anduin.

This is an encounter deck rather than a full expansion like the monthly decks. It contains only the “bad guy” cards: 41 encounter cards and 4 quest cards. The new encounter set is filled with deadly enemies, including the Witch King, described as the Black Captain of Sauron’s forces.

  • Four-part quest across the Anduin
  • 41 encounter cards and 4 quest cards
  • Deadly enemies serving Mordor
  • Designed to become more difficult with more players

The Massing at Osgiliath is known for its severe challenge. Although no official difficulty rating had been assigned, Fantasy Flight representatives at GenCon described it as an 8 or 9. The scenario is particularly difficult for four players using the prebuilt starter decks.

With the forces of Mordor hard on their tails, the heroes must work together to endure the assault and complete the quest. Released at GenCon 2011, this print-on-demand deck offers a focused, demanding challenge for players looking to test their decks against Sauron’s forces.
