About this expansion
Das magische Labyrinth: Erweiterung is a 2011 expansion for 2–4 players that takes about 20 minutes to play. It adds tactical powers and tricky new walls to Dirk Baumann’s magnetic maze game.
In the base game, players move magnetized figures across the board to claim symbols. A metal ball is attached beneath each figure, hidden from view by the board. If a figure reaches a concealed wall, its ball comes loose, and the player must return to their starting corner.
This expansion adds eight magic walls, which can replace up to eight walls from the basic game, plus four sets of magical items. Each player receives a magic wand, potion, and nightcap. These objects create opportunities to disrupt opponents or change the way a turn unfolds.
- Nightcap: Cover another player and cost them a turn.
- Potion: Move as far as desired until reaching the target symbol or a wall.
- Magic wand: Replace the symbol currently being sought with a new one from the bag before moving.
- Magic wall: Allow passage from one direction, but send the approaching figure back to its starting corner from the other.
On a turn, a player may use the power of one object and then removes it from the game. The magic walls add a particularly memorable test of spatial memory: approach from the correct direction and the wall folds over, but come from the wrong side and snap—the metal ball is lost.
Das magische Labyrinth: Erweiterung keeps the original game’s focus on remembering the hidden layout while adding limited-use choices and directional hazards. It is a compact way to make the magnetic labyrinth more surprising for returning apprentices.
