About this board game

The Magnificent Race is a 1975 racing game for 2–4 players, with a play time of approximately 60 minutes. Players use different means of travel, purchase Advantage cards, and compete in a series of marble-driven mini races while trying to complete the journey from New York around the world and back to New York.

Each race focuses on a type of transportation. The racing marbles are placed in the game’s spinner, which works like a roulette-style wheel with only one hole. The marble that lands in the hole wins that race and advances its progress by three pegs along the race track.

Players can buy cards that provide advantages in mini races involving particular modes of travel. These cards add strategic choices to the competition, while vehicle cards and arrow markers help represent the players’ racing positions and selections.

Every race also includes the purple marble belonging to Dastardly Dan, the non-player competitor. He can win an individual race—and may even win the entire game—so players must keep an eye on his progress as they race around the board.
