About this board game
The March of Progress is a two-player strategy game played in about 30 minutes, in which players use action cards to control countries and generate victory points. Whoever has the most victory points at the end of the game wins.
Each side begins with a hand of eight action cards, including options such as Move, Attack, and Recruit. Every turn, both players simultaneously choose one card, reveal their choices, and carry out the actions. This shared rhythm makes each decision important as you seek to advance your own position while responding to your opponent.
Played cards remain discarded until a player uses their score card. After scoring, that player regains all of their played cards, creating a cycle of commitment, timing, and recovery. Control of countries is central to generating victory points and shaping the contest throughout the game.
The game includes an introductory scenario based on the Thirty Years War, providing a way to learn the core rules. Four additional historical scenarios alter the setup and adjust the rules to reflect different periods:
- The Age of Marlborough
- Vive l’Empereur
- World War 1 in the West
- World War 2 in the West
These scenarios give The March of Progress varied settings and different strategic challenges while preserving its focused two-player format. With its simultaneous card selection, changing access to actions, and victory-point scoring, the game presents a compact contest inspired by warfare and historical conflict.
