About this board game

The Murder at Cthulhu Manor is a murder mystery game for 7–9 players that takes about 180 minutes to play. After a séance in an old mansion, the medium responsible for contacting the afterlife appears dead in the building’s basement.

The suspects are the séance participants: a university professor, a painter, the house chauffeur, the man of the mansion, and five other assistants. Strange regional legends tell of monsters capable of controlling humans—could they be connected to the crime?

In this deductive genre, every player takes the role of a character with two aims: help clarify the mystery while also achieving personal goals. Investigation, negotiation, and the exchange of information are central to the experience, but the murderer is one of you.

  • Investigate a death following a séance
  • Question and negotiate with the other characters
  • Decide which information to trust—and which claims to doubt
  • Pursue your own objectives while seeking the truth

You cannot believe everything you hear, yet you cannot win without placing your trust in someone. That tension makes every conversation and revelation important as the group works to determine what happened in the mansion.

Released in 2019, The Murder at Cthulhu Manor offers a distinctive Japanese murder mystery experience. It is designed to be played only once, making the unfolding investigation and the choices made during the session a unique event for the whole group.
