About this board game

The Mysteries of Peking is a detective board game for 2–6 players that plays in about 30 minutes. As one of Chinatown’s best detectives, you must solve a casebook mystery and reveal the criminal.

Travel around the board to interrogate witnesses and gather a description of the culprit. Does the criminal have glasses, a scar, a mustache, or a hat? Not every witness will provide useful information, so choosing whom to visit is an important part of the investigation.

Two witnesses are especially valuable. The Wise Man tells you which witness is lying, while the Spy reveals where the culprit is hiding. Reach them as soon as possible to obtain vital information, then continue questioning the other witnesses to complete the description.

• Red filter: view general clues.
• Mirror: decipher the Wise Man’s clue.
• Mask card: check the culprit in the casebook.

Fortune cookies let you move the dragons, and you can use them to prevent other detectives from reaching key locations before you. Once you discover the culprit, you must go to the dragon where that criminal is hiding.

With its witness interviews, concealed information, moving dragons, and special decoding tools, The Mysteries of Peking creates a race to piece together the truth. First released in 1987, it combines investigation and competition in a compact mystery game.
