About this expansion

The Pursuit of Happiness: KS Promos is a bundle of four mini-expansions for 1–4 players, with a playing time of approximately 90 minutes. Released in 2016, this collection adds new events, trends, pets, and jobs to the experience.

The Events mini-expansion introduces four random events, drawn at the beginning of each adult round and activated at the start of the following round. Positive and negative effects are both included, but players can perform the task shown on a card during the round to secure a benefit or avoid a penalty. Events range from a Technological Breakthrough, which reduces the resources needed for Projects, to a Financial Crisis, which makes Projects more expensive. A Natural Disaster cannot be prevented and causes a loss of Short Term Happiness.

With Trends, three cards are drawn at random at the beginning of the game. These trends remain in effect throughout play, highlighting categories that will be popular during the players’ lifetimes. At the end of the game, completed Projects in those categories provide additional Long Time Happiness.

• Pets: Adds pets to Item-Activity cards. Pets advance automatically during upkeep as long as their upkeep cost is paid.
• Stand-Alone Jobs: Adds three new jobs to the standard job deck. These jobs cannot be promoted, but players can work harder by paying up to twice the cost in the Work Harder section to receive the reward multiplied by the same amount.

These Kickstarter promos give The Pursuit of Happiness additional ways for changing circumstances, long-term categories, upkeep choices, and employment to shape each game.
