About this board game

The Quick and the Undead is a Wild West strategy game for 1–6 players, with games lasting about 60 minutes. In the undead-infested town of West Fort, rival Outlaws compete to earn the most Notoriety and claim control.

Each game unfolds over days, with three action rounds in every day. At the start of each round, players secretly choose one of eight actions by setting the corresponding number on a D8. Everyone reveals their choice simultaneously, then places an Outlaw from their stash onto that action.

Turns are resolved in descending numerical order, beginning with hired guns and continuing from action 8 down to action 2. If multiple players choose the same action, their Outlaws duel. Players must plan carefully, since an Outlaw cannot return to an action during the same day once one of their Outlaws is already there.

  • Compete for actions through simultaneous hidden choices.
  • Duel rival Outlaws when players contest the same action.
  • Purchase unique buildings when you have enough money and the street is free of Undead.
  • Fight for control of occupied buildings through shootouts.

Buildings provide unique actions, while the town’s Undead create an ongoing threat. Outlaws used on action spaces return to their players’ stashes at the end of the day, but those killed remain in the graveyard.

The game ends after a day in which fewer Undead remain than there are players. Players then total Notoriety from tokens taken, Undead killed, and owned buildings that have been emptied of Undead. In The Quick and the Undead, the highest total wins; ties go to the Outlaw with more money, followed by a final duel to the death if necessary.
