About this board game

The Rock of Chickamauga is a scenario-driven, two-player American Civil War wargame covering the entire Battle of Chickamauga, fought from September 18th through 20th, 1863, in northern Georgia.

The Union Army of the Cumberland, commanded by William Rosecrans, advances south from Chattanooga, seeking to envelop and trap Braxton Bragg’s Confederate Army of Tennessee. Bragg anticipates the maneuver, withdraws, and then counterattacks the overextended Union forces along Chickamauga Creek, the “River of Death.”

Using the Black Swan system, this game is designed to handle larger-scale battles while keeping rules overhead low. The system is closely related to the Blind Swords game system first introduced in The Devil’s To Pay!, while adapting its approach for the scale and demands of Chickamauga.

• Corps-level activations: Players trigger activations by Corps rather than by lower-level formations.

The result is a focused contest between two armies in a pivotal Civil War encounter, combining operational movement with meaningful tactical choices. Players must manage the timing of Corps activations and decide where Division priorities matter most as the struggle develops.
