About this board game
The Sun of Austerlitz is a two-player operational wargame with a playing time of approximately 120 minutes, covering Napoleon’s campaign in Moravia during November and December 1805.
The campaign scenario begins on 15 November, as Russian forces retire toward Brünn while the French pursue them. A second scenario places the French spread around Brünn and the Coalition forces at Olmütz, exploring the situation Napoleon might have faced if the Allies had not attacked and Prussia had entered the war.
Using the CAMPAIGNS System – Series 1X, the game presents the campaign at a scale of 3,200 meters per hex, two days per turn, and 1,000 men per strength point. The map covers the territory from Znaim and Brünn to Olmütz and Ostrava, with the campaign unfolding across a detailed operational area.
- One 22 × 34-inch map
- 280 counters
- 20 pages of rules
- Seven player-aid charts for setup and organization displays
- Two scenarios covering different strategic situations
The Sun of Austerlitz is designed to simulate the whole campaign at the operational level, from the fall of Vienna through Hollabrunn, Schoengrabern, and Wischau to Austerlitz. Its scope also allows the map to mate with Victory Games’ “1809” map, supporting a progression of the campaign through Durrenstein and Znaim.
For players interested in Napoleonic operational history, this game focuses on the movement and organization of campaign forces across Moravia, giving the 1805 campaign a dedicated treatment from the French pursuit to the events surrounding Austerlitz.
